Troy Deeney threatened with pepper spray by police offer following altercation at Birmingham nightclub

Watford captain Troy Deeney was threatened with pepper spray by a police officer following an altercation between the player and a fan at a Birmingham nightclub on Sunday morning.

The striker had been attacked inside the club by a man who wanted to have his photo taken with the footballer.

After Deeney had been removed from Levana Bar, video footage shows a policewoman shouting "Get back" and holding up a pepper spray to the player.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning following Watford's 2-0 defeat by Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

It's understood Watford are aware of the incident and will not take any action against their captain. As far as they are concerned, the matter is closed.

On 25 June 2012, Deeney was sentenced to ten months' imprisonment for kicking a man in the head during a brawl.

He was released after serving almost three months of the sentence, after showing his remorse, and the fact that he was a first-time offender.

After his release from prison the ex-Walsall player said he was a reformed character and that it was "the best thing that ever happened to me".

He added: "The two years leading up to that, I was thinking I was a man because I was going out drinking and paying for everyone. I am more happy now, just being content in life."

Deeney has established himself as one of Watford's star players over the years, impressing during his debut season in the Premier League in which he scored 13 goals in 38 games.

He was the subject of a £25m bid from Leicester in the summer but instead signed a new five-year contract with the Hornets.

EPL: CHELSEA ENDS ARSENAL TITLE HOPES as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 'likes' @ArsenalFanTV tweet calling for Arsene Wenger to be sacked

Chelsea have now won all but one of their matches at Stamford Bridge this season. A team that finished tenth last season have reinvented themselves as champions-in-waiting, averaging more than two points a game, and in the process they have accelerated what is becoming known as the annual Arsenal meltdown.

Chelsea faced a trip to Anfield before hosting Arsenal just five days later, with many predicting a potential swing in momentum. But as the full time whistle was blown it could have not been any clearer that Chelsea could be champions.a

They may not have been at their best against Liverpool in midweek, but claiming a point at Anfield while Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, lost and drew respectively meant Antonio Conte’s side were able to sleep easily on their way back to west London.

MATCH PREVIEW: Chelsea [?] or Arsenal [?]

Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday February 4, kicking off at 12:30 GMT.

It's the top of the table clash this weekend, which could, in theory, put the title beyond Wenger's side. If Arsenal loses, they will be 12 points behind the league leaders (Chelsea).

Antonio Conte keen on preaching caution, he said "Anything can happen. It's important to keep the antenna very high. If someone thinks that the league is finished, I'm not so sure. I want to have this tension, this right tension. In the past I fight to win the title and I know we must pay great attention. There are 15 games to play and there are a lot of great teams behind us."

Arsenal were unable to capitalise on Chelsea’s midweek draw with Liverpool as they fell to defeat at Watford. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, knows that defeat could mark the end of his side’s title challenge while a win could blow the race open once more. He had this to say: "When you beat them 3-0 I didn't expect them to go 13 games unbeaten. They have found a better balance. Kante has a huge impact in that team. Hazard and Costa have come back to good form and they are very efficient going forward."
